Call for Papers
Invitation
We are pleased to invite the Biomedical and Health Informatics community to join us in Osnabrück, Germany from October 20th – 22nd, 2025 and contribute to EFMI STC 2025’s Conference Programme. This conference seeks to bring together European scientists and those from abroad to share their latest methodologies and results for conducting evaluation of innovative and AI enabled health IT.
We particularly encourage early-career scientists and students to contribute to the conference.

We are using the Online Registry Platform for handling your submissions, register with the Online Registry Platform and submit your contributions. All submissions go through a peer review process. All submissions must be in English and formatted according to the provided templates.
The EFMI STC 2025 Scientific Programme Committee (SPC) and Local Organizing Committee (LOC) invite you to submit a scientific paper or poster for peer review, to organize a workshop, panel, or to submit a contribution to an industrial session. Under the EFMI STC 2025 theme of Good Evaluation – Better Digital Health the programme will be built around the following topics, casting light on different perspectives of the evaluation of digital health:
Evaluating AI systems: performance metrics; explainability; acceptance; use; impact; others
Human and organisational factors: human factors; human-computer interaction; organizational issues including data and information management; patient safety; others
Social and political factors: social determinants; costs; international, national, and regional programmes and strategies; digital transformation
Technical factors: general quality of health IT; usability; interoperability; data protection & security, scalability; others
Ethical issues: ethical evaluation; data ethics; ethics in routine use; other ethical discourses
Evaluation paradigms and techniques: quantitative; qualitative; mixed methods; hermeneutic; evaluation designs; evaluation instruments; others
Research models, frameworks and theories: health IT maturity; implementation science; logic models; technology acceptance models; others

Scientific Programme - Papers and Other Types of Submissions
Submissions for full papers and posters are accepted through the scientific peer-reviewed process led by the EFMI STC 2025 Scientific Programme Committee. Submissions for workshops, panels and contributions for industry and practice sessions are reviewed by the Scientific Programme Committee and the Local Organising Committee.
Accepted full papers and student papers for the Scientific Programme are published in the EFMI STC 2025 Proceedings (Studies in Health Technology and Informatics) and are indexed by PubMed; Web of Science: Conference Proceedings Citation Index - Science (CPCI-S) and Book Citation Index - Science (BKCI-S); Google Scholar; Scopus; EMCare.
Posters are published in GMS Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (MIBE), an open access scientific journal of the German Society of Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS).
All contributions are submitted via the Online Registry Platform only using this link: https://access.online-registry.net/stc2025.
They must be formatted according to the IOS template. Please remember that the template must be set to A4 page size layout to comply with the page limit of the submission types (see below). Submissions that are not formatted according to the template and that are exceeding the total page limit (which includes the references) are rejected.
The following types of submissions are possible:
Full Papers / Student Papers
Description: original articles containing work that has not been published previously.
Length and format: 5 pages (Abstract 300 words maximum), following the scheme of Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions, References. Papers must be formatted according to the IOS template in A4 format.
Publication: IOS Press Stud Health Technol Inform, open access, online.
Presentation: 10 minutes presentation in person followed by a discussion of 5 minutes.
Registration: At least one author of the paper must be registered at the conference before 15 July 2025, otherwise the paper is rejected.
Posters
Description: work in progress or interim results that have not been published previously.
Length and format: 3 pages (Abstract 150 words maximum), following the scheme of Abstract, Introduction, Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusions, References. Poster submissions must be formatted according to the IOS template in A4 format.
Publication: GMS Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (MIBE), an open access scientific journal of the German Society of Medical Informatics, Biometry and Epidemiology (GMDS).
Presentation: 5 minutes presentation at the poster (e-posters only) in person. Discussions take place at the end of the poster session.
Registration: At least one author of the poster must be registered at the conference before 15 July 2025, otherwise the poster is rejected.
Workshops and Panels
Description: presentation and discussion of innovative, controversial or impactful topics.
Length and format: 3 pages (Abstract 150 words maximum), following the scheme of Abstract, Topic, Programme, Outcome, Short Bio of Presenters. Submissions must be formatted according to the IOS template in A4.
Presentation: 60 minutes presentations and discussions in person; the programme must engage and involve the audience.
Submissions to Industry and Practice Sessions
Description: presentation of the application of a product (demonstration) or use of a service.
Length and format: 3 pages.
Presentation: 10-15 minutes presentations in person.
Mandatory Author Registration for all accepted submissions is applied
Any presentation accepted in the programme requires to have at least one author registered to the conference. Multiple presentations require one distinct registration per each accepted submission (for each full paper/student paper or poster). For workshops and panels all authors must be registered. Disrespect of this usual EFMI/MIE rule will lead to cancellation and withdraw of the submitted manuscript from conference proceedings.
